Dean Brockman is the runner-up for the inaugural CJHL Coach of the Year Award. The Broncos' coach and general manager guided the team to a 36-14-4 record in the regular season and a share of top spot in the SJHL with 76 points. The Broncos lost the Canalta Cup in a tough six-game series to the Yorkton Terriers."To be honest, I didn't even know I was in the running for it," Brockman said. "People were sending me texts about it but I hadn't heard anything from the league."Like many coaches, Brockman is hesitant to praise himself, preferring the focus be on the players and the on-ice action. "I hate this because it means talking about myself," Brockman said. "We didn't win a championship, so I might have done a good job or not, I don't know."The winner of the Coach of the Year Award was Ryan Papaioannou of the Brooks Bandits of the Alberta Junior Hockey League. As good a season as Brockman and the Broncos had, it would have been tough for anyone to beat out Papaioannou. The Bandits finished the regular season with a stunning record of 53-4-3 and 109 points, both records in the AJHL. After a bit of coaxing, and in a roundabout way, Brockman took some small measure of credit."After losing all of our graduating players from last season, we had a good year overall."
