With two more over the weekend, the Humboldt Broncos have now won 16 games in a row.
They triumphed over two of their biggest rivals, despite two shaky starts.
The Broncos took on the LaRonge Ice Wolves at the Elgar Petersen Arena on January 12, fighting to make it 15 wins in a row.
In the first period, it looked as though their win streak could end at 14, but by the middle of the second period, they had a commanding lead.
Both teams came out strong in the first period, but despite some power plays throughout the period, had a hard time putting the puck in the net.
The first goal of the game was actually scored on a penalty shot by Zac Ashdown of LaRonge. Just seconds before that, Bronco Andrew Johnston believed he had got the puck past Wolves goaltender Alex Rajotte, only to discover the puck had not gone in the net. A mad scramble down to the other end of the ice ended in the incident that awarded LaRonge a penalty shot.
Though Bronco goalie Colin Dzijacky let that puck get past him, that would be both the first and last time it happened over three periods.
Though it took a few minutes, the Broncos came back from that goal, and managed to score their first goal of the game at 19:02 of the first. The unassisted goal was scored by Taylor Johnson.
In the second, the Broncos took back control of the game. Josh Roach scored the go-ahead goal for Humboldt on a power play at 2:34, assisted by Mathew Backhouse and Matt Glowa.
Ryan Marshall made it a 3-1 game with a point at 4:06, assisted by Adam Antkowiak and Johnston.
Finally, Emrik Guillemette scored another power play goal for the Broncos at 8:30, assisted by Taylor Duzan and Kameron Ballas, to bring the score to 4-1.
Though there was a new goalie guarding the LaRonge net - Rajotte was replaced by Myles Hovdebo for the third period - that didn't seem to slow the Broncos down.
Johnston finally got the goal he was looking for in the first at 9:53 of the third period, assisted by Guillemette and Ballas.
Logan Sproule added another point to Humboldt's lead at 11:03 of the third, assisted by Robbie Ciolfi and Jonathan Parisien.
Just seconds late, Adam Zbitniff scored Humboldt's seventh goal at 11:56, assisted by Neil Landry and Joey Davies.
Finally, Antkowiak added the last point at 17:53, assisted by Guillemette and Johnston.
Final score: 8-1 Broncos.
An average number of penalties were awarded throughout the game, with Humboldt recording seven - all minor - and LaRonge receiving five, again, all minor.
The Broncos were much better on the power play, going two for four, while the Wolves were zero for five.
The Broncos also out-shot the Wolves 44 to 32.
All three stars of the game were Broncos - Guillemette, Antkowiak and Dzijacky were honoured for their play.
Three nights later, after a weekend snowstorm hit Humboldt, the Broncos hosted the Battlefords North Stars.
The two well-matched teams were unable to score for the entire first and second periods, despite power plays on both sides, and a penalty shot for the Broncos at 6:32 of the second period, taken by Joey Davies.
A fight broke out early in the game - just over five minutes into the first period - between Bronco Chase Wharton and Jared Samborski of the Stars. Both got five minutes for fighting. High sticking, slashing and roughing calls were made on both sides throughout the first and second periods. Bronco Adam Antkowiak got two minutes for roughing and a 10-minute misconduct at 7:51 of the second, as did Matthew Sheeran of the Stars.
In the third period, both teams finally settled down. However, between the two teams, they only made seven shots on goal. One of Humboldt's four shots was the one to make it past Stars goaltender Connor Creech. Emrik Guillemette scored the lone goal of the game at 12:23, assisted by Andrew Johnston and Jonathan Parisien, giving the Broncos a 1-0 lead.
One point is all it takes to win a game, however; and that's all the Broncos needed.
Also contributing to the win was Bronco netminder Matt Hrynkiw. He stopped all 27 shots levelled at his net over three periods of play. The Broncos only made 18 shots on the North Stars' net.
Hrynkiw was listed as the first star of the game, followed by Guillemette and Johnston.
Approximately 600 people attended the game at the Elgar Petersen Arena.
As of January 16, the Broncos were ranked sixth in the Canadian Junior A Hockey League's top 20 standings, up from 10th position last week. The only other SJHL team ranked was the Battlefords North Stars, who sit in 12th position.
