The Broncos took on the Mils on November 1 in front of a hometown crowd of about 350 people.
The Broncos were out-skated by the Mils in the first period, something clearly evidenced in the shots on goal, which stood at 18 for Melville and just seven for Humboldt after one period of play.
Still, it was Humboldt who scored the first and only goal in the first period. Adam Antkowiak put the Broncos on the board at 7:14 of the first, assisted by Taylor Johnson and Andrew Johnston.
The Mils managed to tie things up with an unassisted goal by Michael Desjarlais at the four-minute mark of the second. They then took the lead with another unassisted goal, this one by Colin Mospanchuk, at 7:19.
The Broncos - this time Neil Landry, assisted by William Plourde, scored on a power play at 12:38, to even the score.
But another goal by Melville at 17:41, this one on a power play - put the Mils in the lead again.
But not for long.
Johnston scored the tying goal for Humboldt at 18:27 of the second, assisted by Johnson and Nathan Hudema.
The Broncos then took back their lead in the third frame, with goals by Antkowiak, assisted by Johnston, just 33 seconds in, and another by Johnston, assisted by Matthew Backhouse and Antkowiak, at 17:59.
The game ended with the Broncos up 5-3.
Penalties were few and minor throughout the game, with the exception of a 10-minute misconduct for a hit to the head earned by Mospanchuk at 10:59 of the first period.
The Broncos managed to score once on the power play, out of six opportunities. The Mils were one for three.
