The song remains the same for the Humboldt Broncos as they fell 3-2 in overtime to the Battlefords North Stars in Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League action from the Battlefords.
The Dec. 5 loss was the Broncos’ 17th in a row against the North Stars, including their fourth this season, with all four games ending 3-2 in extra time.
Chaseton Braid opened the scoring for the North Stars beating Broncos starter Parker Tobin just 5:36 into the opening period.
The game remained 1-0 North Stars for more than 30 minutes before Jaxon Joseph scored his first of the evening at 18:20, sending the game into the third period tied at one.
The Broncos took their first and only lead of the hockey game early in the third period as Joseph scored his second of the night at 1:55.
Unfortunately for the green and gold the lead did not last very long as the SJHL’s leading point getter Layne Young fired home his 17th goal of the season, just over four minutes later to tie the game at two.
The game remained tied into the overtime period when Troy Gerein scored his second of the year to give the North Stars the win.
Tobin was charged with the loss in the Broncos goal allowing three goals on 23 shots as the Broncos outshot the North Stars 31-23.
It was a clean game between the two teams as they combined for just four minor penalties, with both teams’ power play finishing 0-for-2.
The Broncos will look to get back in the win column on Dec. 8 when they visit the Flin Flon Bombers for their first of two straight road games on back-to-back nights against the Bombers.
