The Humboldt Broncos played the Yorkton Terriers on November 18 in Yorkton, falling to the home team 4-1.
Yorkton scored first, with three goals in the second period - at 7:37, 10:49 and 14:57, the last on a power play.
They then made it 4-0 with a goal at 6:55 of the third period.
Humboldt finally got on the scoreboard with a goal at 15:53 of the third, scored by Andrew Herle, and assisted by Ryan Marshall.
Tensions boiled over at the end of the third period, when Chase Wharton of the Broncos and Sam Rockwell of the Terriers dropped their gloves. Both got five minutes for fighting at 18:15, and a game misconduct.
The Terriers outshot the Broncos 33 to 27, and were better on the power play, going one for three, while the Broncos were zero for three.
Two nights later, things went better for Humboldt on home ice, as they took on their rivals, the Melfort Mustangs.
It was a tense game, though more penalty-free than most Melfort-Humboldt matchups, with just one major penalty - five minutes and a game misconduct for checking from behind to Brendan Fornwald of the Broncos at 8:04 of the first.
Humboldt was the first to score, getting on the board at 19:54 of the first period. Andrew Johnston got the point, assisted by Nathan Hudema and Ryan Marshall.
Melfort didn't manage to tie it up until 8:43 of the third, when Brett Charette scored on Bronco netminder Matt Hrynkiw, assisted by Brandon Sloan and Cole Horn.
Regulation time ended with the score tied at one, as did a five-minute overtime period, in which each team got a power play.
The game went into a shootout, with Humboldt shooting first for each round.
Their first shooter, Johnston, was unable to score, as was Melfort's first, Sloan.
However, Humboldt's second shooter, Matt Glowa did score, and when Anthony Pickering of the Mustangs failed to get by Hrynkiw, and Humboldt third shooter, Marshall, was also able to get a point, Humboldt officially won the shoot-out and the game, 2-1.
Neither team was able to score on a power play, but the Broncos far out-shot the Mustangs - 52 to 22.
The three stars of the game included Broncos Johnston and Glowa, and Melfort netminder Jesse Wilkins.
The Broncos head out on a northern road trip to LaRonge and Flin Flon this week. Their next home game is November 30, against the Estevan Bruins.
