Another quiet night offensively sunk the Humboldt Broncos as they fell 3-2 in overtime in Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League action from Humboldt on Nov. 22.
The Broncos managed just two goals for the third time in their last four games, all losses, and have been outscored 18-9 in the process.
The game got off to a quiet start as neither team managed a goal through the first period, despite each team having two power plays.
The Broncos finally got on the board in the second as they were the beneficiaries of a fortuitous bounce.
Matthieu Gomercic chopped the puck into the Millionaires’ corner, but the puck took a Broncos bounce off the glass and landed on the stick of Logan Schatz. Schatz then slid a nifty pass over to Hunter who tapped it into the gapping cage.
The game remained 1-0 Broncos until early in the third, when a flurry of goals changed the complexion of the game.
The Millionaires scored just 12 seconds into the third period to tie the score, and then again three minutes later to take a 2-1 lead.
Gomercic answered just over 1:30 later as he took the puck wide, drove by the defender and backhanded the puck over the shoulder of the Millionaires netminder to tie the score at two.
After the remainder of regulation solved nothing the two teams went to overtime tied at two.
In the extra session, Cory Schillo made a slick play deking around Broncos defenseman Bryce Fiske before roofing a shot over Jacob Wassermann to give the Millionaires the 3-2 win.
Wassermann was charged with the loss in the Broncos goal allowing three goals on 25 shots as the Broncos outshot the Millionaires 29-25.
The Broncos will look to snap their four game losing streak when they return to action on Nov. 25 for a home matchup against the Battlefords North Stars.
