Flin Flon is tough to beat. That's what the Broncos found on Wednesday night, when they faced the Manitoba team for the second time in a week. In their first contest on October 27 in Flin Flon, the Bombers won 4-0. In their second contest on October 31 in Humboldt, the Bombers managed another big 4-1 win. At least in their second game, the Broncos got on the scoreboard. It was Flin Flon who scored first, managing a goal on Matt Hrynkiw's glove side at 5:36 of the first period.Former Humboldt Bronco-turned-Bomber Josh Roach got their second of the night on a power play just 43 seconds into the second period. That was followed up with another at 4:21, to make it a 3-0 game. The Broncos got their lone goal of the game on a power play at 4:19 of the third period, thanks to Cody Pongracz and David Stumborg. But the Bombers followed that up with an empty-netter at 19:36 of the third to win 4-1. For as much emotion as there was on the ice between the players in the game, there were surprisingly few penalties. Fights threatened to break out throughout the first period, with players pushing and shoving after whistles, but the only players to be penalized for it were Bronco Pongracz and Bomber Tanner Clark. Both were boxed for roughing and unsportsmanlike conduct at 13:48 of the first. In the second, a fight did actually break out. Bomber Brock Hounsell went to the box for two minutes for instigating, a five-minute major for fighting and a 10-minute misconduct. Bronco David Miazga did not get any fighting-related penalties, but he did get two minutes for checking from behind and a 10-minute misconduct at the same point in the period. Flin Flon was one for one on the power play, while Humboldt was one for three, but the Broncos did outshoot the Bombers 38 to 30 over three periods. Shoot-out winIn their second game of the week, the Broncos found a way to win again. The Humboldt Broncos broke a three-game losing streak with a shoot-out win over the LaRonge Ice Wolves on November 1, the same team that had shut down their eight-game win-streak the week before. Things were looking pretty even between the two teams in the first period, as play moved from one end of the ice to the other constantly. Landry got a point of his own, short-handed, at 5:43, assisted by Davies, to put the Broncos up by two, but the Wolves came back once again and scored at 16:07 and again at 19:35 to send the game into overtime, tied at six. Five minutes of OT ended with the score still tied, which meant a shootout.Three shooters for LaRonge failed to score, as did two of the Broncos - Davies and Landry. But Pongracz was able to get the puck past Dasan Sydora, giving the Broncos the extra point and a 7-6 win over LaRonge. The Broncos outshot the Wolves over three periods 54 to 40, and were three for seven on the power play, while the Wolves were one for four.Penalties in the game were mostly minor, though Brett Norman of the Wolves got a 10-minute misconduct in the final seconds of the second period. The Broncos were out of town for their next two games - Nov. 4 in Melville and Nov. 6 in North Battleford.
