It was a sad week for Humboldt Broncos fans.
It all started with a game against the Flin Flon Bombers on October 18 at the Elgar Petersen Arena.
The Bombers started the game strong, with two goals within the first five minutes of the game, the first by Jay Young at 4:40 and the second by Dillan McCombie at 4:57. Brett Penner of the Bombers snuck another past Humboldt goaltender Deven Dubyk at 13:14.
Just over a minute after the Bombers' last goal of the period, Bronco Adam Antkowiak scored the team's first goal at 14:54 on a power play. The goal was assisted by Andrew Johnston and Robbie Ciolfi.
The second period of the game saw the Broncos catching up to the Bombers. It was another power-play goal, this time by Bronco Matt Glowa at 4:20, assisted by Ryan Marshall.
The Bombers scored their final goal of the regular game at 4:43 by McCombie. After that goal, the Broncos kept the puck out of their net.
Two more goals were scored by the Broncos in the second period to even the score - one at 5:05 by Neil Landry, assisted by Taylor Johnson and the other by Nathan Hudema, assisted by David Miazga and Rhett Blackmur.
No goals were scored by either team in the third period, forcing the game into overtime and then a shootout.
In the shootout, Marshall was the only Bronco who managed to get a goal, compared to the Bombers' two shootout goals by Dylan Balaski and McCombie, which led to the Bombers winning the game 5-4.
Penalties were high for both teams during the game.
At 7:34 in the first period, Andrew Herle of the Broncos and Dylan McNab both received five minutes for fighting.
After the major penalty, there were only minor two-minute penalties throughout the game, with four going to the Broncos and five to the Bombers.
Although they lost the game, the Broncos outshot the Bombers 39 to 34.
