The Humboldt Broncos made it four wins in a row with a 2-0 victory over the visiting Estevan Bruins on October 12. This was the second time in two weeks that the Broncos and Bruins had faced off at the Elgar Petersen Arena. The Broncos scored just twice in the game, but backed by a shutout performance by goaltender Matt Hrynkiw, that was enough for the win.Joe Davies scored the first goal of the evening just two minutes into the first period, assisted by Cody Pongracz and Adam Zbitniff. Though the Bruins gave it a good effort and kept much of the play down in the Broncos' end of the ice, and even made 11 shots on net, they couldn't put one past Hrynkiw to tie things up. John Lawrence made good on the right bounce to put the Broncos up by two at 1:06 of the second period. Assists went to Adam Antkowiak and Neil Landry. That was it for scoring in this contest, and penalties were also light, with the Bruins getting just two - one in the first and one in the second - and the Broncos getting six. The most serious penalty was awarded to Humboldt's Dylan Sakatch, who got a two-minute minor for a blow to the head at 10:37 of the second period, as well as a 10-minute misconduct for a hit to the head. Both teams failed to score on the power play - the Broncos were zero for two and the Bruins zero for five. Hrynkiw was stellar in the Bronco net, blocking all 22 shots he faced from the Bruins. In the Estevan net was Curtis Martinu, who stopped 21 shots of the 23 on his net. The Broncos had two away games this week - in Kindersley on October 16 and in North Battleford on October 17. Their next home game will be October 20, against the Kindersley Klippers.
