The Humboldt Broncos dominated one visiting team, but fell to another in two games in just three nights.
The Broncos first faced off against the Kindersley Klippers on October 5. Action in the first period was a lot of back-and-forth between the two teams, and each managed to nab a goal.
The Klippers were able to score first at 4:44, sneaking the puck in past Bronco netminder Tyler Marble.
The Broncos got on the board with a goal at 10:39, credited to Andrew Herle, with assists to Ryan Marshall and Matt Glowa.
In the second period, the Broncos really turned on the juice, making 15 shots on goal - 10 more than in the first period - and scoring four times.
It was Matt Glowa who gave Humboldt their first lead of the game with a point at 3:36 of the second. Marshall and Logan Sproule got the assists.
Getting the insurance goal for the Broncos was Robbie Ciolfi, assisted by Andrew Johnston and Taylor Johnson at 4:38.
Ciolfi added another point to Humboldt's total at 16:54, assisted by Johnston and Johnson once again.
And finally, to round out the second period, David Miazga got the Broncos fifth goal at 18:30. The assist went to Dylan Fluter.
In the third, the Ciolfi-Johnston-Johnson line got their third goal of the game at 1:05.
The Klippers got a second point at 7:08, but the Broncos added another at 18:02, this one by Miaza, assisted by Johnson, to regain their five-point lead.
Final score: 7-2 Humboldt.
Though there were just two penalties in the first period, things began to get rough late in the second. There was a fight between Tanner Kissick of the Klippers and Jake Rawlins of the Broncos at 18:57 of the second frame. Both got five for fighting.
In the third, things got even rougher. There was a fight between Bronco Adam Antkowiak and Morgan Eaton at 19:33. Both got five for fighting, and Klipper Kissick got two minutes for interference.
Humboldt's Joey Davies and Nathan Hudema dropped gloves with Klippers Colby Daniels and Kissick just 25 seconds later. All got five minutes for fighting, but Daniels and Kissick both got game misconducts as well, and Hudema an extra two-minute minor for instigating.
The Broncos out-shot the Klippers 28-25 over three periods.
But things didn't go so well for the Broncos when they met up with the Battlefords North Stars, who sit a few points ahead of them in the Bauer conference rankings, two nights later.
The Stars paid the Elgar Petersen Arena a visit on October 7, and wasted no time before scoring their first point on Broncos netminder Tyler Marble just 46 seconds into the game.
The Broncos fired back with a power play point by Robbie Ciolfi, assisted by Andrew Johnston and Mathew Backhouse at 3:31.
The Broncos then took the lead with a point at 8:52 of the first, scored by Ryan Marshall, assisted by Nathan Hudema and Chase Wharton.
The Stars tied the game with a power play goal of their own at 2:18 of the second. The Broncos took back their lead with a goal by Neil Landry, assisted by Adam Antkowiak and Kameren Ballas at 6:53 of the second, but the Stars tied the game at three with a point at 18:52.
In the third, Ciolfi managed a short-handed goal for the Broncos at 3:53, assisted by Johnston, but the Stars were able to tie it up at four at 14:32.
Then, with just five seconds left in the game, the North Stars got their fifth and final goal, preventing an overtime period, and serving Humboldt a loss at home - their first of the regular season.
Penalties were light for most of the game, though a fight did break out between Wharton of the Broncos and Sam Prpich of the Stars at 3:35 of the second. Both got five for fighting, and Wharton an extra 10-minute misconduct.
The Stars out-shot the Broncos 39 to 34, but both teams had the same record on the power play - one for four.
The only Bronco to make the list for Stars of the game was Ciolfi, who was named the second star.
