The Ice Wolves had a bite taken out of their hide when they invaded Broncos' territory last week.
LaRonge was in Humboldt to take on the Broncos at the Elgar Petersen Arena (EPA) on January 15, and found they needed a little more kick to take down the team currently in 11th in the Canadian Junior Hockey League's weekly rankings.
Cody Pongracz put the Broncos on the board at 8:53 of the first period, assisted by the Broncos' newest acquisition, Alex Forsberg, and Humboldt's own David Stumborg.
Joey Davies got the next one for the green and gold at 15:07, assisted by Pongracz and Logan Sproule. He added one more in the last nine seconds of the period to make it a 3-0 game for Humboldt. Forsberg and Pongracz got the assists on that one.
The Ice Wolves pulled themselves together to get what turned out to be their lone goal of the game just five minutes into the second period.
It was towards the end of the second that Davies got his hat trick, assisted by Pongracz and Forsberg once again, to give the Broncos back their three-goal lead.
Tensions were rising on the ice throughout the second period, and it erupted in some pushing and shoving at the 20-minute mark. That put Humboldt's Rhett Blackmur and Kyle Lipinski, along with LaRonge's Jared Iron and Graham Smerek in the box for two-minute roughing minors at the opening of the third period.
The Ice Wolves continued to play rough in the third period, and that resulted in a checking from behind penalty and a game misconduct for Carl-Philippe Ouimet at 4:25.
Humboldt capitalized on the power play to get their fifth goal of the night off the stick of Pongracz, assisted by Davies and team captain Kameren Ballas.
Humboldt's Sproule got into some trouble in the last two minutes of the game, and was sent to the dressing room with a two-minute blow to the head penalty and a 10-minute misconduct.
With Wolf Brett Hope boxed for a tripping penalty at 17:40, that meant the Broncos' last goal of the night, scored by Blackmur with an assist to Lipinski at 19:26, was an even-strength point.
Final score: 6-1 Broncos.
Michael Gudmandson was in net for the Broncos, facing 30 shots from the Wolves over three periods. The Broncos levelled 39 at the net guarded by Myles Hovdebo.
On the power play, the Broncos were one for five, while the Wolves were zero and three.
Just 513 people attended the game, the last of a five-game homestand for the Broncos. Over the weekend, they travelled to Flin Flon for a doubleheader January 18 and 19 against the Bombers.
