Broncos trample Ice Wolves at home

It was a smackdown at the Elgar Petersen Arena last week when the Humboldt Broncos took on the LaRonge Ice Wolves. Though it didn't start out that way. The Broncos got off to a very slow start in the game, played October 11.

Though it didn't start out that way.
The Broncos got off to a very slow start in the game, played October 11.
There was a lot of back-and-forth from one end of the ice to the other in the first period, and the Ice Wolves were the first to score. They put their first - and only - point up on the board at 18:46 of the first period.
In the second, the Broncos came alive.
Joey Davies got Humboldt's first point at 3:26, assisted by Rhett Blackmur.
Then Matt Glowa got the Broncos' go-ahead goal at 9:24, assisted by Andrew Herle and Ryan Marshall.
Marshall got their third point at 14:37, assisted by Glowa and Josh Roach.
Then captain Taylor Johnson rounded up scoring in the second with a goal at 17:57, assisted by Robbie Ciolfi and Andrew Johnston.
In the third, the Broncos added their fifth and last point at 3:24, scored by Davies. Neil Landry got the assist.
Penalties in the game were almost nonexistent. Each team recorded just four, all minor, in three periods.
Both teams also failed to score on any of their four power plays.
Humboldt out-shot LaRonge by just one - 31 to 30 - which means Bronco netminder Deven Dubyk was kept on his toes over the three periods of play, but only let in one goal.
