With some fresh trades and a new 20-year-old in their lineup, the Humboldt Broncos trounced the visiting Kindersley Klippers on home ice on December 4.
The Klippers, who were minus left winger Taylor Duzan due to his trade to Humboldt on December 1, just couldn't seem to get anything going in the contest that ended 8-2 in Humboldt's favour.
Tensions were high at the outset of the game, and they exploded into a fight just three seconds in. Both Bronco Taylor Johnson and Klipper Bradley Buckingham were boxed for five minutes for fighting at that point.
Things then settled down, and the players focused more on scoring.
Though the Klippers scored first, on a power play at 12:07 of the first period, the Broncos dominated the scoreboard for the rest of the game.
It was Matt Glowa of the Broncos who scored the first goal of the game for Humboldt at 13:11 of the first period. Robbie Ciolfi and Cody Pettapiece got the assists on the point that tied the game at one.
Ciolfi got the Broncos' next goal at 14:14, assisted by Joey Davies and Mathew Backhouse.
Backhouse got a point of his own at 14:32, assisted by Davies, and Johnston made it a 4-1 game for Humboldt with another goal at 14:56. Assists went to Duzan and Riley Kieser.
In the second, the Broncos added a power-play point at 2:25, scored by John Lawrence, and assisted by Ciolfi and Backhouse before the Klippers added a second and final goal to their total at 4:33.
Neil Landry was the next Bronco to score, short-handed at 19:47 of the second, assisted by Davies.
In the third, Ciolfi got his second goal of the game at 2:09, assisted by Lawrence and Glowa.
Chase Wharton rounded out scoring for the Broncos on a power play at 13:57, assisted by Logan Sproule and Pettapiece.
Penalties, despite what the opening seconds of the game may have predicted, were light. The Broncos got just four in total, including three in the first period. Kindersley got five in total, including two in the first.
The Broncos were better at scoring on their power plays, going two for four, while the Klippers were one for three.
The Broncos outshot the Klippers as well, 35 to 22.
Ciolfi, Backhouse and Davies were listed as the game's three stars.
An estimated 700 fans attended the game at the Elgar Petersen Arena.
