Once again, they took it in five. The Humboldt Broncos finished their Northern Conference final series against the Flin Flon Bombers with a 2-1 win in Game 5 on March 29. Like all games in this series, the last was close.

Once again, they took it in five.
The Humboldt Broncos finished their Northern Conference final series against the Flin Flon Bombers with a 2-1 win in Game 5 on March 29.
Like all games in this series, the last was close.
The Broncos took a 1-0 lead early in the game. Carter Page got the lone goal for Humboldt in regulation time at 12:01 of the first period, assisted by Neil Landry and Kameren Ballas.
The Bombers were unable to score in the first period; they made only five shots on the net guarded by Matt Hrynkiw, and gave the Broncos two power plays after earning two separate penalties for slashing.
In the second, neither team was able to get past the goaltenders - Hrynkiw blocked all 13 of the shots aimed at him, and Devin Buffalo denied each of the 17 shots by the Broncos.
Power plays didn't even result in any goals, though Flin Flon got two, and the Broncos, one.
It looked like Humboldt was going to win Game 5 and the series with just one goal.
Then, with just 1:11 left in the third period, Riley Storzuk of the Bombers, assisted by former Bronco Josh Roach, evened things up.
That sent the game into an overtime period, where once again, despite shots on goal of 16 for Humboldt and 13 for Flin Flon, neither team could score.
Finally, Humboldt's Joey Davies managed to break the tie with a goal at 1:05 of the second overtime period, assisted by Cody Pongracz and Page.
The goal was Davies' 11th of the post-season, and it sent his team on to the league final for the second year in a row.
The Broncos will face the Yorkton Terriers in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League final series. Yorkton won over the Melville Millionaires in six games to advance.
Dean Brockman, head coach and general manager of the Broncos, was happy with his team's win.
They were tight games, he agreed.
"It was a pretty phenomenal series," he stated.
The games seemed rough, but the penalties really didn't rack up to an uncommon number, he indicated.
"I didn't really know what to expect going in (to the series)," he said.
"But we had some heroes, and that's what it usually takes."
Joey Davies was one of those heroes, he noted, as were all the guys who scored often, like Neil Landry, Cody Pongracz, Alex Forsberg, Logan Sproule, Neil Landry, Justin Lund, John Lawrence, David Miazga and Adam Zbitniff.
The goals weren't plentiful in this series, so every one of them counted, as did the goaltending.
"Matt (Hrynkiw) was great," Brockman said.
Overall, "I thought our guys showed a lot of character," he said.
Now, the Broncos will face the Terriers, a team they fell to once early in the season, but won over in their next three meetings.
The two teams ended the season with identical points, so it promises to be a battle of the titans.
"Obviously every series gets a little bit tougher," Brockman said, and he expects that to happen this time.
"They're a pretty decent team. It should be pretty good hockey."
About 1,300 people came out for the Broncos' Good Friday Game 5 against Flin Flon, and Brockman is hoping for bigger and even louder crowds for the league final series.
With 10-foot snowbanks still outside, what else is there to do but head to the rink to watch some hockey?
The series begins Friday, April 5 in Humboldt, with Game 2 in Yorkton on Sunday, Game 3 in Humboldt on Tuesday, and Game 4 in Yorkton on Thursday.
