One and one.
The Humboldt Broncos walked away from the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) Showcase weekend in Estevan October 14-15 with a 1-1 record.
The Broncos took on the host team, the Estevan Bruins, in their first game of the weekend on Friday - their second meeting so far this season.
However, this second meeting ended the same as the first - with a loss for Humboldt, though the Broncos out-shot the Bruins by a huge 36 to 19 margin in three periods.
The Bruins scored first, getting the puck past Humboldt netminder Deven Dubyk on a power play at 12:19 of the first period.
Estevan added to their lead with another goal at 4:55 of the second, and another at 5:30. Yet another goal at 9:26 of the second period gave the Bruins a commanding 4-0 lead.
However, Humboldt was shocked back into action late in the second.
Andrew Herle scored the Broncos first goal of the night on a power play at 14:38, assisted by Josh Roach and Matt Glowa.
Just over a minute later, Joey Davies made it a 4-2 game with a goal assisted by Andrew Johnston.
However, the Bruins came back with a goal at 8:19 of the third, and the Broncos were only able to add one more point, at 19:22 of the third, scored by Johnston, and assisted by Taylor Johnson, which meant the game ended with Humboldt still down by two.
Final score: 5-3 Estevan.
Penalties were nearly non-existent for the Broncos in the game - they got just two in the entire 60 minutes of play, both in the first period.
The Bruins got more physical in the second and third periods, recording all six of their penalties in those 40 minutes.
Only one major was handed out - Dominic Perrault of the Bruins got a two-minute minor and a game misconduct for checking from behind at 10:53 of the third period.
The Bruins were one for two on the power play, while the Broncos were one for five.
The next night, things went better for Humboldt. They met up with the Melville Millionaires on October 15.
Melville started the scoring with a goal at 3:40 of the first period, but Humboldt tied it up with a point of their own before the end of that 20 minutes. Riley Kieser got the Broncos' first point at 15:49 of the first, assisted by Neil Landry and Josh Roach.
In the second, the Red Wings took the lead again with a goal just 37 seconds in. They then added to their lead with another point at 10:17.
But the Broncos came back, scoring at 12:45 (Taylor Johnson off Landry and Kieser) and at 14:07 (Andrew Johnston off Robbie Ciolfi and Roach) to tie the game up again.
In the third, Melville again took a one-point lead with a power play goal at 2:54.
But the Broncos managed to tie the game once more with a goal by David Miazga, assisted by Adam Antkowiak, at 8:03. They then took the lead for the first time in the game with a shorthanded, unassisted goal by Kieser at 16:07.
Final score: 5-4 Broncos.
Penalties were more plentiful in this contest, with Humboldt earning eight in total, including a 10-minute misconduct and a two-minute minor to Chase Wharton at 18:18 of the first period for blow to the head. The Mils, meanwhile, recorded five in total, none of them major.
Humboldt was zero for four on the power play, compared to Melville's one for six, but the Broncos out-shot the Mils 37 to 30 over three periods.
Two Humboldt players were named to the list of game stars, including Kieser and Landry.
