Broncos win over 'Stangs at home

It was a great game for Humboldt Broncos fans. The Broncos played the Melfort Mustangs on December 9 at the Elgar Petersen Arena in Humboldt.

It was a great game for Humboldt Broncos fans.
The Broncos played the Melfort Mustangs on December 9 at the Elgar Petersen Arena in Humboldt.
The game, attended by 495 fans, started out in favour of the Broncos, with Adam Antowiak scoring the team's first goal at 8:03 of the first, assisted by John Lawrence and Justin Lund.
They didn't keep the lead for long. The Mustangs scored their first goal only 30 seconds later but Matthew Audette got the lead back for the Broncos with a goal at 18:27.
The second period was quieter for both teams, with only one goal scored by Bronco Brandon Tidy at 10:09, assisted by Adam Zbitniff and Carter Page, giving the Broncos a 3-1 lead.
In the third period, things started to heat up. The Mustangs came back with a goal at 3:19. It was followed by a power-play goal for the Broncos at 9:55, by Dylan Fluter, assisted by Kameren Ballas and Page, bringing the final score to 4-2 for the Broncos.
The competition was fierce between the two rival teams, with plenty of penalties for both.
Both teams received a two-minute penalty in the first period and the Mustangs received one in the second as well.
In the third period, tempers flared, with three penalties for the Mustangs for unsportsmanlike conduct and five for the Broncos, two for unsportsmanlike conduct, one for roughing and one for cross checking, including a 10-minute game misconduct for Zbitniff at 3:04.
Although Bronco goalie Matt Hrynkiw turned away many shots on his goal, the Broncos outshot the Mustangs 43-26.
