BVC Blaze earn top five finish

The host Battleford Volleyball Club Blaze won fifth place of Tier 3 at the 14U women's Subway Sask Cup No. 2 tournament held in North Battleford last weekend. The Blaze downed the Martensville Outerlimits 2-0 (25-19, 25-11) in the fifth place game.

The host Battleford Volleyball Club Blaze won fifth place of Tier 3 at the 14U women's Subway Sask Cup No. 2 tournament held in North Battleford last weekend.

The Blaze downed the Martensville Outerlimits 2-0 (25-19, 25-11) in the fifth place game.

The tournament, which featured 24 teams from across the province, was contested Saturday and Sunday at the NationsWEST Fieldhouse, North Battleford Comprehensive High School and École Monseigneur Blaise Morand.

The Prince Albert Optimist Toppers En Fuego defeated the Saskatoon JCVC Heat 2-0 (25-20, 25-21) in the Tier 1 final to earn the gold medal. En Fuego also won the Tier 1 gold medal at Sask Cup No. 1 in Saskatoon in February. The Saskatoon Smash won Tier 1 bronze by beating the Moose Jaw Element Panthers 2-1 (25-11, 15-25, 15-5).

In Tier 2, the South Shore Stingers from Regina Beach won the gold medal by downing the Regina QCVC Royal Black 2-0 (25-15, 25-11). The Swift Current Junior Sundogs 1 earned bronze with a 2-0 (25-20, 25-16) win over the Regina QCVC Black Heat.

A Prince Albert team also took home Tier 3 gold. The Fuerza edged Birch Hills BHK 2-0 (26-24, 27-25) to finish first in Tier 3. In another close match, the Estevan Extreme earned a 2-0 (25-23, 26-24) victory over the Prince Albert VC Smashing Bananas.

The next action for the 14U women is the Conexus Provincial Volleyball Championships April 25-27 in Saskatoon and Warman.
