The Battleford Volleyball Club Fusion and the Edam Prairie Storm both medaled at the Conexus Provincial Championship last weekend in Saskatoon and Warman.
The BVC Fusion won the Tier 3 gold medal game in the 15U women's tournament. The Fusion beat the Yorkton Blitz Fusion 2-1 (15-25, 25-14, 15-6) to claim the gold medal. During the round robin, the ninth-seeded Fusion finished third in pool F and first in pool N. BVC downed Esterhazy and Lanigan in three sets to reach the final.
In Tier 1, the Regina Junior Cougars defeated the Regina Volleyball Club Gold 2-1 (17-25, 25-16, 15-12) in the gold medal final. The Junior Cougars were ranked second heading into the tournament.
Regina QCVC Royal won the Tier 2 gold medal 2-1 (25-22, 25-13) against the Moose Jaw Element Panthers. The Melfort Storm came from behind to defeat the Martensville Outerlimits 2-1 (21-25, 26-24, 15-6) to win the Tier 4 gold medal. In Tier 5, the RVC Black came back for a 2-1 (13-25, 25-16, 15-10) victory over the Lampman Purple Cobras to earn the gold medal.
The next tournament for the women is the 15U Canadian West Open May 17-19 in Regina.
In the 16U women's tournament, the Edam Prairie Storm claimed Tier 4 gold at the 16U women's tournament. The Prairie Storm downed the Yorkton Parkland Pounders 2-0 (25-21, 25-18) in the gold medal match. Edam, who were the 13th seed in the tournament, finished 2-2 in pool E, including two three-set losses. The Prairie Storm finished second in pool M, before playoff victories over Cut Knife WVC Clash and the Ochapawace Thunder.
Cut Knife finished fifth in Tier 4 after beating the Regina QCVC Black Lightning 2-1 (25-13, 11-25, 15-2).
In the Tier 1 gold medal match, the Saskatoon Junior Huskies beat the Regina Junior Cougars 2-0 (25-17, 25-20). The Huskies were the 17th seed heading into the tournament, but went undefeated.
The Lloydminster Lakeland Rustlers downed the Regina QCVC Royal 2-0 (25-9, 25-11) to claim Tier 2 gold. In Tier 3, the Rouleau Panthers came from behind to defeat the Lumsden Rage 2-1 (14-25, 25-15, 15-8) in the gold medal match. The Saskatoon Attack won the Tier 5 gold medal with a 2-0 (25-22, 25-18) win against the Prince Albert Optimist Toppers Esprit
The next tournament for the women is the 16U Canadian West Open May 17-19 in Calgary.
