Cadets take aim at marksmanship provincials

Army and air cadets from across the zone gathered in North Battleford in February. Two local squads were on the mark and will be sending teams to provincials in Regina April 14 and 15.

The North Battleford Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron No. 43 was second to Lloydminster in the zone marksmanship competition after a team score of 1,719 out of a possible 2,000. The team was led by Austin Legacy, a 16-year-old cadet who scored 373 out of a possible 400 individual points on the targets.

Kiwi Pete-Bull, a 16-year-old female, scored a 364. Hannah Adamcryck, the other female on the team, scored 347. Adam Fransoo scored 327 and Zachary Blackmon scored 308.

Just nine points back of Squadron No. 43 was the Battleford Army Cadet Corps No. 2537. Erica King, who finished with a score of 371, led the Battleford team. Ashton Brodgen finished with a score of 370. Taylan Cookman scored 332, James Weir scored 329 and Keelyn Campbell scored 311.

The Cadets who competed at the zone competition range from 12 to 18, as each team must have either one male or one female on their five-person team.

Cadets from Prince Albert, Lloydminster, Regina, Saskatoon and Meadow Lake will be competing at provincials and aiming for a shot at nationals in Quebec City, Que. May 7 to 12.
