It was a great ending for Canada. The Canada West team won the silver medal in the World Junior A Challenge this weekend. The tournament was a great one for the team, which was led by Humboldt's own Dean Brockman as head coach. Team Canada West lost only their last game against the United States of America on November 11. Canada West started out the tournament strong, winning their first game against the Czech Republic 7-0 on November 6. After facing the Czechs, Canada West went on to face Russia in the November 7 Group A final. It was a close game between Canada West and Russia, going into overtime after a third period score of 3-3. Luckily, Troy Stecher of Richmond, B.C. scored the winning goal on a power play at 1:22 of the extra period to give Canada West a win and a spot in the semifinals on November 9. The semifinals saw the two Canadian teams - East and West - facing off against each other. The competition was fierce between the two teams, with Canada West winning the game with a score of 1-0, thanks to a shutout game by goaltender Jonah Imoo of Surrey, B.C. The win sent Canada West into the final against their arch-enemy, the United States. Although the team played hard, they lost the final 6-3, earning them the silver medal in the World Junior A Challenge. This is the third time they have won the silver medal after facing the United States.
