Perhaps the best way to describe the John Paul II Collegiate cheerleading team is that the 23 girls are all naturals in the sport.
That maybe the case, but it took hard work and dedication throughout the school year, as the team was created in September. In their first season the John Paul II cheer team have a provincial medal to show for their work.
John Paul II competed in Saskatchewan Provincial Cheerleading Championships on the weekend, which was their second competition of the season and second in two weeks.
John Paul II finished with a score of 292.6 out of 440 and took second place behind Tommy Douglas Collegiate of Saskatoon. The other teams in the large school senior level two category were Yorkton Regional High School and Bedford Road Collegiate.
The team went from a gold medal in their first competition, the Warman Cheer Classic earlier in March, to a provincial silver medal and they will finish the season with another competition in Edmonton April 21.
The team is coached by Lesia Rathje and Rena Fauchon-Smockum.
