The Cut Knife Colts have advanced to the semifinals of the SPHL playoffs after sweeping their best-of-five series with the Glaslyn North Stars
Cut Knife began the playoffs at home with a 10-0 rout of Glaslyn North Stars Friday night. Riley Albert led the Colts' offence with four goals and two assists. Ashton Hewson recorded a hat trick, Kenton Albert scored twice and Kirk MacDonald added a goal. Josh Thomas backstopped Cut Knife to the shutout.
In game two of their series Saturday, the Colts beat the North Stars 9-4 in Glaslyn behind Jordan Noble's three goals and an assist. MacDonald also had a hat trick in the Colts' win. Riley Albert had a goal and four assists. Hewson and Ryan Constant also scored for Cut Knife. Glaslyn was led by Trent McNabb's two goals. Mathew Arsenault and Tristan Deronoski were the North Stars' other goal scorers.
The Colts finished off the North Stars in game three Tuesday night with a 5-1 win in Cut Knife. Hewson, Kenton and Riley Albert, Gino Frank and Brandon O'Donnel each scored a goal in the Colts' win. Shawn Delainey was Glaslyn's lone goal scorer.
The Maymont Settlers have taken the early advantage in their best-of-five SPHL playoff series against the Radisson Wheatkings.
The Settlers opened their series against the Wheatkings with a 12-4 blowout win in Maymont. Austin Severson netted a hat trick in the Settlers' win. Kyle Litchenwald and Michael Pylypow each scored twice. Tyler Hubbard recorded a goal and four assists for Maymont. Colby Beierle, Taylor Fauchoux, Kinley Sevick and Nick Strain all added goals for the Settlers. Dustin Bezugly led the Wheatkings with a hat trick. Shaun Rose also scored for Radisson.
Game two was closer, but Maymont pulled out a 5-3 victory in Radisson. The Settlers were led by Litchenwald's four-goal effort. Ryan Baptiste was the other Maymont goal scorer. Shaun Rose scored twice in the game for Radisson. Bezugly added the third Wheatkings goal.
The Settlers took a 2-0 series lead into Wednesday night's game three.
The Battleford Beaver Blues also took a commanding 2-0 lead in their best-of-five series against the Timberwolves with a 4-3 overtime win Monday night in Spiritwood. Brent Salzl scored twice, while Darren Poitras and Keegan Sparrow also tallied in Battleford's win. Chance Henderson, Anthony Radke and Raymond Witchekan found the back of the net for the Timberwolves.
The Meota Combines put the Shellbrook Silvertips on the brink of elimination with a 4-2 win Tuesday night in Shellbrook. Daxen Collins, Bo Gervais, Tyson Knight and Taylor Tatchell were Meota's goal scorers. Devon Dicus and Matt Mortensen lit the lamp for Shellbrook.
Meota leads the best-of-five series 2-1. Game four is Saturday night at the North Battleford Civic Centre. Puck drop is at 8:30 p.m.
