Combines beat Perdue, sixth straight SPHL win

The Meota Combines hot streak continued Dec. 20 as they beat the Perdue Pirates 6-3 at the Civic Centre. The Combines (6-1) have won six straight games after an opening night loss to Maymont.

The Meota Combines hot streak continued Dec. 20 as they beat the Perdue Pirates 6-3 at the Civic Centre. The Combines (6-1) have won six straight games after an opening night loss to Maymont.

The scoring started early in the first period for the Combines. Brody Tatchell scored in the first minute of the period, with assists from Brett Miller and Bo Gervais.

The Pirates (1-8) answered with two goals 90 seconds apart. Perdue forward Keaton Silvernagle beat Combines goaltender Carson Churchman to tie the game at one. Lucas Fortier gave Perdue the lead at the 15:31 mark of the first.

Miller tied the game with his sixth goal of the season midway through the period for the Combines, putting the puck past Pirates goaltender Aidan Kerslake.

In the second, the Combines regained the lead. Tanner Robinson scored his fourth goal to put Meota up 3-2. The Pirates tied the game at three with less than four minutes to play on Clark McNulty's fifth goal of the campaign. Tatchell's seventh goal of the season with 1:29 left in the second put the Combines in the lead for good.

Aaron Cadrin and Kyle Gregoire each scored in the third period to round out the scoring.

Churchman picked up his fourth win of the season for the Combines. Kerslake dropped his eighth game of the year for Perdue.

Meota is tied for first place in the SPHL with the Cut Knife Colts. Both teams have 12 points, but the Combines have a game at hand.
