For the second year in a row, the Meota Combines are planning to give back to the community.

After raising $1,138 last  year during a game against the Battleford Beaver Blues, the Saskatchewan Prairie Hockey League team will be hosting their second annual fundraiser for the Battlefords Empty Stocking Fund Saturday night when they host the Maymont Settlers in a 7:30  p.m. contest at the Civic Centre.

“We will be donating 100 percent of the net profits from the game to them and we’d love to raise a similiar amount to what we did a year ago,” Combines defenceman and general manager Aaron Cadrin said.

“With Maymont being our opponent this year, we’re hoping for a good turnout from those coming in from out of town, and since it’s the last game before Christmas we’re hoping to see some people who are in for the holidays that only have a chance to see one game all year join us to help support the community.”

The team is also hosting a Christmas dance following the game, that is free for the public to attend.

“We’ll have free pizza up there along with door prizes from some of our sponsors,” Cadrin said.

The Combines will also be at home Friday for an 8 p.m. contest against the Glaslyn North Stars.

The Battleford Beaver Blues will be in action Friday at 8:30 p.m. as they’ll host the Hafford Hawks at the Battleford Arena.
