Combines lose to first place Colts

The Cut Knife Colts extended their win streak to nine games with a 9-2 win over the Meota Combines at the Civic Centre Saturday night. Jordan Noble was a key part of the Colts' offence as he scored twice and added two assists.

The Cut Knife Colts extended their win streak to nine games with a 9-2 win over the Meota Combines at the Civic Centre Saturday night.

The Colts jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first period. Ashton Hewson opened the scoring less than five minutes into period. Noble scored his first of two goals in the game with 8:33 left in the frame. Riley Albert added a goal in the first period with 3:23 remaining.

Cut Knife extended the lead to four 5:46 into the second with a goal from Ryan Constant.

The Combines cut the lead in half with two goals a minute apart. Sean Kenny struck first with an unassisted goal. Bo Gervais beat Colts goaltender Dallas Sperle 7:28 into the period.

The Colts responded with two goals in the last three minutes of the second period. Kenton Albert scored with 2:01 left to play in the period. Bye Braun added a goal with 54 seconds remaining in the second to put the Colts up 6-2 heading into the third.

Cut Knife kept scoring early in the third. Gino Frank and Noble both scored within the first two minutes of the period.

Brett Miller scored the Combines' third goal of the game 3:53 into the final period. Darbie Koshman added the Colts' ninth goal midway through the third.

Chris Honig picked up his fifth loss for the Combines. Sperle won his fifth game of the season for the Colts.

Meota (8-8) is tied for fourth with the Spiritwood Timberwolves in the SPHL standings. Cut Knife (14-2) is still in first place.

The Combines next game is Wednesday night in Radisson. Meota's last home game of the season is Friday night at the Civic Centre. Puck drop is 8:30 p.m.
