The Maidstone Jets won just six games all season and faced the Meadow Lake Stampeders in the first round of North Saskatchewan River Hockey League playoffs.
Meadow Lake won 10 times during the regular season and was hoping that a rematch of last season championship series would go in their favour this time.
That wasn't the case. In game one, Calvin Fiddler had a hat trick for Meadow Lake after the first period. Brett Harrison finished with a hat trick as well, he scored Maidstone's first period goal, scored again in the second period and scored the overtime winner in the third overtime period after 95 minutes of hockey winning the game 4-3.
Game two of the series also needed extra time, this time it took just 71 minutes. It was Harrison scoring again in overtime, this time early into the second overtime to win the game and the best-of three series.
Maidstone will advance to play St. Walburg, the first overall team who had a bye in the first round.
Turtleford also advanced to second round, as they pulled off a 4-3 win Wednesday in game three to knock out Edam.
Turtleford's Adam Schwark scored his second goal of the game in the third period and it held up to be the game-winning goal.
Schwark scored the lone third-period goal in the first game of the series as well, which gave Turtleford the 2-1 win.
In the second game of the series, Edam was led by Ryan Roach, who netted a hat trick. The 3 Stars won 5-2.
One series is left to be competed, as Wilkie and Paradise Hill were tied 1-1 and scheduled to play Wednesday, but the game was postponed due to weather conditions.
In game one in Wilkie, the Outlaws skated out to a 4-0 first period lead. Wilkie went on to win the game 9-1, but not before 59 penalty minutes, a game ejection and a game misconduct were handed out.
In game two, Wilkie lost 7-6 in Paradise Hill, and Derek Jeannotte scored a power play goal in overtime to end the game. That goal was Jeanotte's third and fifth point of the game.
