There are no tee times needed or green fees to be paid, but the Battlefords now have a new way to golf.
One year after Heather O'Neill brought the idea to North Battleford's Parks and Recreation department there is a new disk golf course in Centennial Park. The course is a 16-hole par three with hanging baskets as the targets.
The 16 baskets have been placed throughout the park starting near the playground behind the Civic Centre and ending close to the splash park.
The final step for the completion of the course is placing the hole signs, which show the distances and hole sponsors. Those signs are being made now and O'Neill expects them to be ready soon.
"It was really good," said O'Neill of the 12 months process to bring this idea to life. "I got a great response from the City and got sponsorships for each of the holes."
She also noted that anyone who has seen her and her family out practicing on the course or those who have seen the baskets in the park are excited about the new idea as a way to stay active and entertained in the Battlefords.
O'Neill didn't want to say when the official grand opening would be, but she is planning to have a sponsorship tournament to officially open the course and show the Battlefords what disk golf is all about.
