Eagles and Stamps on top

The Meadow Lake Stampeders and St. Walburg Eagles went into the Christmas break on highs. The two teams sit first and second in the North Saskatchewan River Hockey League and both won twice in the days leading up to break.

Meadow Lake was in Edam Dec. 21 and after trailing early they prevailed with the 5-3 win. Ryan Roach and Brendan Weitzel scored in the first period while Brody Roach scored Edam's third goal in the second period.

Meadow Lake didn't score until half was through the second period and had five different goal scorers, as Darren Caron, Cole Fern, Calvin Fiddler, Tedi Hood and Jordon Oystrick tallied for the Stampeders.

Just one penalty was called the entire game, that being a high stick in the second period.

Meadow Lake also faced Spiritwood Friday and won 5-1 with three third period goals to seal the win. Caron had two goals, while Fiddler, Dustin Gorst and Mitch Paramchuck rounded out the Meadow Lake scoring.

Quinten Tipewan had the only Spiritwood goal while Rick Dallyn earned his second win of the week and Marty Lehouillier was the losing goalie.

St. Walburg beat Paradise Hill to stay undefeated in 13 games. Dec. 21, the Eagles won 5-2 over the Hawks and Friday in St. Walburg the Eagles won 5-3 over Paradise Hill.

The other Friday night game, had Turtleford in Edam. The Turtleford Tigers led 1-0 after the first period with a Tyler Karst goal. Edam broke the tie with five minutes remaining in the third when Weitzel tallied for the 3 Stars.

In overtime, Kyle Dodgson scored in the final minute to give Turtleford the 2-1 win. Quinton Gauthier was in net for the loss, as Edam dropped to 3-6-2 while Chad Therres helped Turtleford improve to 3-6-1.

Wednesday, Wilkie hosted Paradise Hill and Curtis Sander backstopped Wilkie to a 7-2 win.

There is just one game on the NSRHL schedule this weekend, as Meadow Lake plays in Spiritwood.
