Eagles fly into round two

The rivalry between the St. Walburg Eagles and Paradise Hill Hawks was renewed during three games in the first round of the North Saskatchewan River Hockey League playoffs.

The rivalry between the St. Walburg Eagles and Paradise Hill Hawks was renewed during three games in the first round of the North Saskatchewan River Hockey League playoffs.

The Eagles needed just three games to eliminate the Hawks, as they won 5-2 Saturday, 6-4 Sunday and 13-1 Wednesday. In Wednesday's game, Shane Williamson had 10 points, Kevin Nasby recorded nine points, Logan Isley had eight and Taylor Thiessen had seven for the Eagles.

Bryan Bridges was in net for all three wins for the Eagles in the series, while three different goalies saw action for the Hawks.

In the second versus seventh series, Meadow Lake will look to end the series with Spiritwood Friday. The Stampeders won 11-4 Saturday and 3-2 Sunday. Jordan Keller notched two goals in the 3-2 win for the Stampeders while Ashton McIntyre had seven points in the first game of the series. Calvin Fiddler notched a hat trick. If necessary, game four of the series will be played Saturday in Spiritwood.

Maidstone won 6-3 on home ice to start their series with Turtleford and was in action once again Wednesday, this time in Turtleford. Rory Gregoire had two goals, as the Jets won 5-2 to take a commanding 2-0 series lead. The two teams will play again Friday.

Wilkie and Edam split the first two games of their series, with both teams earning wins on the road. Game three was scheduled for Thursday in Wilkie and game four goes Friday in Edam.
