Christa Blaquiere of Edam signs a scholarship offer and letter of intent to play softball with Augsburgh College in Minnesota next season.

A familiar face around the fastball diamond for years in Edam, Christa Blaquiere is taking her skills to the next level.

Blaquiere played two seasons at the College of the Desert in California and recently accepted a scholarship to Augsburgh College in Minneapolis, Minn. The Auggies play in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, which falls into the NCAA Division III category.

Blaquiere pitched with the College of the Desert and played an instrumental role this past season. Blaquiere helped her team to 35-5 record and a conference championship. The pitcher and utility player had a .295 batting average with 10 runs-batted-in for the Roadrunners. She also pitched in six, earning a win and a team high five saves. Off the field, Balquiere was nominated for Honorable Mention All Foothill Conference 2012.

"Christa was an absolute joy to coach and have as a member of this squad. I am going to miss her smile and positive attitude," said Roadrunners head coach Thomas Armstrong in a release from her old team. "She is a top notch ball player and a young lady that came up big for us many times including her walk-off double to seal our conference title."
