After being knocked out of the first round of the North Saskatchewan River Hockey League playoffs last season, the Edam 3 Stars are back to their playoff form this time around.
The 3 Stars upset Wilkie in round one with a three-game sweep and after knocking off the third place team, they set their sights on the Maidstone Jets.
The Jets finished the regular season in first place, but in round two it was Edam winning three straight and earning a berth in the NSRHL final.
The 3 Stars went into Maidstone Feb. 23 and won 6-3. Scott Carson was in net for the Jets while Quinton Gauthier was in net again for Edam.
Sunday, back in Edam and with the same goaltending matchup, Edam skated to an 8-2 victory. The 3 Stars scored five in the first period to cruise to victory, as Martin Smith led the offensive attack with a hat trick.
Wednesday, back in Maidstone, the 3 Stars had the Jets right where they wanted them and earned a 4-1 win taking the series sweep.
The season doesn't end for the Jets despite the knockout of the NSRHL. The Jets along with a few Edam players will be up against Bruno in senior A provincial action. Game one of that series was set for Sunday in Bruno. Game two goes March 12 in Maidstone, and, if necessary, game three will be played March 14 in Bruno.
Who will Edam play in the league championship series? That is still to be decided, as game three of the St. Walburg/Meadow Lake series was set for Friday night, as the two teams were tied 1-1.
In game one, the teams were locked at 0-0 after 40 minutes. St. Walburg netted two goals on Rick Dallyn while Bryan Bridges was unbeatable and the Eagles took a 1-0 series lead.
Tuesday, back in Meadow Lake, Dallyn was again solid in net giving up three goals, but this time the Stampeders provided him with more offence. Dustin Gorst and Brendan Wasyliw both scored twice while Darren Caron and Calvin Fiddler scored once on Kristian Sawyshyn to earn the 6-3 win and tie the series.
Game four will be played in Meadow Lake Saturday.
