A pair of Englefeld boys struck silver at badminton Provincials last weekend.
Blair Miskolczi and Braeden Schwartz, a boys' doubles team from Englefeld School, won silver at the 2011 Provincial Badminton Playoffs in Biggar May 14-16.
The two scored a perfect record of three wins in the round robin, victorious over Rosthern Junior College, Melfort, and Regina O'Neill.
They then beat Oxbow two sets to none to advance to the gold medal final against Fox Valley.
The two teams really battled it out in that last match. Fox Valley won the first set 23-21, and Englefeld won the second 21-17. However, it was Fox Valley who came out on top of a 25-23 score in the last set to win gold.
Though the Englefeld duo brought home the only medal to this area, other local badminton players did compete hard at Provincials.
Molli Patton of Annaheim was in the girls' singles competition. She won two matches over Swift Current and Carrot River, and lost to Rosthern Junior College. The record was good enough for her to advance to the semifinals. But she then lost to Saskatoon Walter Murray 2-0 and to Frontier 2-1 and failed to advance to the finals.
Justin Vidak of Englefeld competed in the boys' singles event.
He lost 2-0 to Pierceland, and 2-0 to Loreburn in the round robin, then scored a final round robin win over Saskatoon Feehan. But his 1-2 record did not allow him to advance in the tournament.
No local teams competed in girls' doubles or mixed doubles.
