The North Saskatchewan River Hockey League is back for another season, as the St. Walburg Eagles look to defend their league title with some notable players gone from their championship roster.

One of those players, Darren Delainey, made his debut with the Turtleford Tigers Saturday. Delainey and Garret Macnab scored for the Tigers while Makstr Lacoursiere and Brendan Weitzel scored for the Edam 3 Stars in regulation.

After 60 minutes and a five-minute overtime period, nothing was solved and the opening game of the season went to a shootout.

Luke Zbaraschuk and Delainey missed in the shootout while Kris Bloom was the lone scorer for Turtleford.

At the other end of the ice, Geordy Gabruck missed, but Brody Roach and Ryan Corrigal scored to give Edam the 3-2 win.

Quinton Gauthier was in net for the win while Chad Terres suffered the shootout loss.

The league held a roster meeting this week and the league will be in full swing this weekend with five games on the schedule.
