Jill Shumay's Maidstone team went into the Scotties Tournament of Hearts as a bit of an unknown team, as it was their first time at the national curling championship. They left with some much earned respect from curling fans across the country and the elite curling teams as well.
Shumay finished the round robin with a 6-5 record after winning her first four games. The Maidstone rink of Shumay, Kara Johnston, Taryn Holtby, Jinaya Ayrey, Patty Hersikorn and coach Gene Friesen finished fifth overall and just outside of the playoffs.
Ontario's Rachel Homan won her first Scotties Tournament of Hearts with a 9-6 win over Manitoba's Jennifer Jones.
