High school athletics has come to a close, with flag football officially bringing the 2017-2018 year to an end.
The flag football division championship games were played in Foam Lake on June 4 and Humboldt on June 6, with Foam Lake and Lanigan bringing home the titles.
East Division
Foam Lake One captured the East Division title after knocking off their school counterparts Foam Lake Two 24-21 in the final.
Despite capturing the division title, Foam Lake One almost did not make the final, as the regular season finished in a three-way tie for first.
Foam Lake One, Foam Lake Two, and Kelvington each finished with identical 4-1 records, with the two Foam Lake schools advancing on a tiebreaker.
The regular season was a tale of two halves, as the top half of the standings each finished 4-1, while the bottom half each finished 1-4, as Wadena, Ituna, and Wynyard all finished in a tie for fourth.
West Division
The Lanigan Lazers are West Division champions after going on the road to Humboldt and knocking off the top seeded Mohawks 19-0.
The upset win was impressive for the Lazers, who finished the regular season 0-1-1 against the Mohawks, and were shut out each time.
The win almost did not happen for the Lazers (3-1-2), who needed a 12-12 tie with St. Brieux, just to reach the final, as they finished one point clear of St. Brieux in second.
The Crusaders wrapped up the regular season as the league’s third ranked squad after posting a record of 3-2-1.
Rounding out the four-team field was Watrous, who finished the season 0-6.
