At one point in his junior career Calder Neufeld suited up with the Battlefords North Stars before being traded to Estevan.

So far this season, Neufeld has been one of the best players in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League and this week he was honoured twice for his accomplishments in the first month.

Neufeld was named the SJHL player of the month, as he recorded eight goals in five games with the Bruins. He was also named the SJHL player of the week for last week's action. Honourable mentions for September's player of the month include: Dylan Smith of Estevan, Jay Young of Flin Flon and Tad Kozun of Nipawin.

Kozun, who North Star fans had a first hand opportunity to watch Friday night, was the winner of the rookie of the month honour, as he had five goals and seven assists in seven games. Notre Dame's Ty Reichenbach, Yorkton's Jamie Vlanich and Jeremy Johnson were honourable mentions for the rookie honour.

The defenceman of the month was Carson Grolla of Notre Dame. Grolla had two goals and two assists in six games. The Hounds' defenceman edged out Nipawin's Jesse Williamson, Flin Flon's Tanner Clark and Humboldt's Logan Sproule for the September honour.

The SJHL goaltender of the month was Reichenbach of Notre Dame. The rookie goalie won three of his four starts and had a 2.04 goals against average and a .926 save percentage during that span. Davis Jones of Nipawin, Matt Hrynkiw of Humboldt and Stephen Klein of Nipawin earned honourable mentions.

Matthew Backhouse of Humboldt was the defenceman of the week and Alex Rajotte of La Ronge was named the goaltender of the week.

The North Stars Blake Tatchell was an honourable mention for player of the week while Connor Creech, was an honorable mention for goaltender of the week.

Finally from the SJHL, the power rankings were released for the first time since the pre-season and the North Stars moved from the seventh spot in pre-season to the third spot overall on the recent rankings. Winning five of seven games and all three roads games proved to be a quick way to move up the rankings.
