There may be no prouder athlete in the world than a football player, or at least in the football hungry province of Saskatchewan and the Battlefords community.

The core values of sportsmanship, determination, respect and discipline are stressed to all football players and again those in Grade 7 and 8 have an opportunity to join Battlefords Minor Football.

BMF was established last summer and is a six-a-side tackle football league aimed at players the Battlefords and surrounding communities. The league is dedicated to the development of fundamental football skills and positive citizenship amongst the participants says coach Mike Humenny, who is one of the several experienced coaches with the program. Humenny will be joined by other North Battleford Comprehensive High School coaches, as well as John Paul II coaches, parents and community volunteers and current post secondary football players from the Battlefords on the coaching staff.

All players have the opportunity to experience a variety of football positions in a fun and inclusive environment and be exposed to the basics of football. All players will be outfitted in new, appropriately sized equipment April 23 and 24 at NBCHS from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The 2012 season will operate Monday and Wednesday evenings beginning April 30 and ending in late June. All practices and games will be at the NBCHS practice field.

Humenny is still accepting registration for the season and can be contacted at 445-6787.
