The competition part of the 2012-13 Saskatchewan Cheerleading Association season came to an end March 23 and 24 with the provincial competition.

The John Paul II team was one of many throughout the province to compete in the numerous divisions at Mount Royal Collegiate in Saskatoon.

On the first day of competition, John Paul II finished third in the senior level III division. Vanier won the division with a score of 312.2 while Churchill was second with a 301.75. John Paul II earned a score of 293.55. Winston Knoll finished fourth in the division.

Last year, John Paul II's first at competition, produced a second place finish in a different division, this time around the team earned third.

Along with cheering on the John Paul II team, a handful of girls participated on the first demo group team in the Battlefords, as the cheerleading club led by Lesia Rathje was in its first season.

The new team practiced once a week for the past seven months working to improve their skills. This group of seven girls did a demo at the Annual Warman Cheer Classic the week before provincials.

"The girls nailed the performance that they worked hard to put together," said Rathje, coach of Cheer Legacy Athletics and the John Paul II cheer team.
