The Saskatoon Blades had to restock their prospects pool with draft picks in the later rounds of the WHL bantam draft, but they couldn't wait any longer on Ryan Rewarts, a goalie from Cut Knife who played with the Unity Lazers bantam AA team.

Rewerts, received an early 15th birthday present, as he was the Blades third pick, selected 110th overall in the WHL bantam draft earlier this month.

Rewerts turns 15 at the end of June, but his birthday likely isn't what is on his mind at this time. After being drafted, Rewerts now is invited to the Saskatoon Blades' spring camp May 27, where he and his family will be given a tour of the Blades facilities before doing on- and off-ice workouts.

Rewerts patrolled the Unity net and produced an 8-7-0 record with two shutouts and played 919 minutes, fourth most in the Centre Four Hockey League. Unity finished with an 11-12-1 record in regular season and in fifth place while Rewerts had a goals against average of 4.70.

Along with his play during the season, Rewerts impressed at the Sask First bantam tournament, as a goaltender for Zone 7, which won the D-final game.

"Ryan is a big goalie who our scouting staff really liked in Regina at the Sask First tournament in March," said Blades' assistant general manager Jarrod Brodsky, after the draft. "He covers a lot of net and is an athletic kid for his size."

Rewerts is listed as a 61? 200-pound goaltender, who will likely tryout for a spot in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League next season.
