Golfing at the lake begins

Because the night temperatures were still dropping a little lower than the staff at the Jackfish Lake Golf and Conference Centre would have liked they delayed the start of the golf season, but Wednesday they will be in full swing.

The gates are open and all the greens and tees will be in full service as the 18-hole golf course is ready for the year, nearly a week earlier than the expected May 1 opening day.

According to proshop manager Kyle Kellgren, the greens and the rest of the course came through the winter extremely well and everyone at the provincial park is excited to get the season started.

With the course being marketed to tourists throughout the golf season, the golf course and Jackfish Lodge are offering a Stay and Play package. When two people come for the Stay and Play package they receive a night's stay, 18 holes of golf, and a cart for $60 per person.

The membership at the course increased by 55 last season and the staff is looking to keep those numbers on the rise. Perhaps the most popular day of the week to golf at Jackfish is Thursday evening, as the men's and ladies' night will begin in May. The first ladies' night is May 10 with the first men's night to follow the next week. The men's and ladies' nights at Jackfish rotate Thursdays each week.

There are also tournaments scheduled for the season, as the United Way Golf Tournament will take place in July, but before then Kellgren invites all golfers of all skill levels to golf the course and take in the great scenery along Jackfish Lake.
