Six of the 12 North Saskatchewan River Baseball League teams completed the first half of their schedule after Wednesday night. The rest will soon follow.
The defending league champion Lloydminster Meridian Twins lead the pack with a 6-1 record, while the local area teams and the rest of the league are trying to keep pace.
The Unity Cardinals held the fourth spot in the standings with a 4-2 record. The Cardinals handed the Border City Blue Jays their first loss of the season with a 15-7 win in Lloydminster.
June 7, the Cardinals also beat Standard Hill 10-4. Cory Wildeman was the winning pitcher after allowing three earned runs. Ryan Greenwald led Unity's offence with three hits and three runs batted in.
Garry Pauls, Brad Holfeld and Mike Ballan pitched for Standard Hill in the loss.
The Wilkie Brewers earned the same record as the Cardinals and have won three straight games, all at home.
Wilkie beat the Lloydminster Junior Redhawks Tuesday with a 9-2 win. Bye Braun was the winning pitcher for the Brewers, as he allowed just one run in six innings. Nick Pernitsky had four hits in the game to help the Brewers to the victory.
Wilkie also topped St. Walburg June 7 by a 13-5 score. Jared Herle pitched six innings for the win. Pernitsky again was the Brewers' top batter with two hits and three RBI in the game.
Wilkie was scheduled to play Meadow Lake Sunday at home, but, because of the wet conditions, the game was postponed and hasn't yet been rescheduled.
After action Wednesday, the North Battleford Beavers held the eighth spot in the standings with a 4-3 record.
Tuesday at Beaver Lions Stadium, the Beavers edged Standard Hill 6-5. The Beavers led the game 5-1 in heading into the seventh inning, but saw the Lakers fight back to tie the game in the top half of the inning. The Beavers broke the tie in the home half of the seventh to earn the win and keep the Lakers winless on the season.
The St. Walburg Reds sat at 1-6 on the season and have lost three straight games. Wednesday, the Reds fell 16-5 to the Meadow Lake White Sox. Monday, the Reds lost 11-0 to the Midwest Expos.
Mervin and Standard Hill remain the only winless teams in the NSRBL, as the Flyers are 0-6 and the Lakers are 0-7.
The Mervin Flyers lost 3-0 June 7 against Midwest, They were scheduled to play Wilkie Thursday in Mervin and in Kindersley Friday.
Standard Hill's seventh loss came Wednesday in 11-1 game against the Twins.
