The Humboldt Hammerheads kicked off their season on a high note, as the club captured the team title at their home competition on June 16.

The Hammerheads sent 65 swimmers to the meet, where they picked up 29 firsts, 36 seconds, and 32 thirds in individual races.

The Hammerheads’ 66 swimmers were part of the 193 total swimmers from nine clubs who competed.

The teams’ finishes gave them the most of each, with their 97 top three finishes being more than double the next highest team.

The meet featured the short distance events, with 25 and 50m races being on the deck. The lone 100m races came in either the individual medley, or in relay races.

The girls Hammerheads led the top three charge for the home side, as their 41 swimmers picked up 10 firsts, 18 seconds, and 20 thirds.

The girls Hammerheads saw a trio of swimmers each grab five top three finishes, with Sophia Babagonio leading the charge, as she grabbed four firsts, and one second in the 9-10 girls competition.

Abbey McLarty nearly matched her teammates output, as she racked up three firsts, and two seconds in the same 9-10 girls competition.

Nicole Haeusler was the only other girls Hammerhead to reach the podium in individual races five times, as she picked up two firsts and three seconds in the girls 18 and older category.

The Hammerheads boys swimmers also picked up many top three finishes as their 24 swimmers picked up 13 firsts, 12 seconds, and 11 thirds.

While the girls managed to pick up more top three finishes, it was the boys who saw more individual success, with three Hammerheads combining to pick up 11 firsts, six seconds, and one third.

Jay Eichorst finished as the most decorated of the Hammerheads swimmers, claiming four firsts, two seconds and one third in the boys 15-17 competition.

Just missing out on joining Eichorst with seven medals was Darren Romanuik, who collected six of his own in the boys 13-14 competition, including three firsts, and three seconds.

Rounding out the Hammerheads swimmers who managed at least five top three finishes was Gabriel Babagonio, who collected four firsts and a second in the boys 15-17 competition.

While the Hammerheads enjoyed individual event success, a number of athletes also grabbed total points medals, with the club capturing two golds, six silvers, and three bronze.

With their home meet now behind them, the Hammerheads will set out on a busy summer schedule, which will take them all over the province.

The Hammerheads’ next meet comes June 23 when they travel to Rosetown for the Rosetown Royal Speed Swim Team 2018 Swim Meet.
