It will be a tropical holiday for a group of girls from Humboldt.
The Humboldt Basketball Club, consisting of nine girls from Humboldt and one from Outlook, will be headed to Hawaii from December 17 to January 4 to play basketball.
"There is a company out of Ontario that arranges high school trips, so there's tournaments in a couple different countries that you can pick from," said coach Kerri Archibald, who coaches the team with Kevin Grieman.
The club is very excited to play in the 10-team tournament at the tropical destination.
They have been planning the trip since last February, after talking to other clubs that have been on similar trips.
"Middle Lake went to Cuba, Wakaw went to Hawaii last year for volleyball and Clavet also went for basketball, so we just talked to them about their experiences and how everyone really enjoyed it," said Archibald.
The girls won't just spend their time on the court. The girls, their parents and coaches planned some sightseeing and fun activities to go along with the basketball.
"We'll take a trip to Pearl Harbour, we're headed out to (a) nature reserve, there are some of us that will be going on a dolphin snorkeling excursion where you get to swim in the ocean with the dolphins, and we are taking a trip to the north shore and I think some of the girls may go for some surfing lessons while we are there," said Archibald.
"Some are looking at skydiving, the dads and myself. I don't think any of the girls will be doing that but I think some of the adults will be looking at skydiving while we are there," laughed Archibald.
The club is grateful for the support they have received so far from their home communities.
"We've done a lot of fundraising over the last year... We are really appreciative of the community that helped us out with that," said Archibald.
