HCI Mohawks win pre-district title

Humboldt’s four schools competed in one of the final events of the year, pre-district track and field. This year’s pre-district event was held May 15 in Humboldt, with 13 schools in action, and HCI finishing first overall.

HCI

The Humboldt Collegiate Mohawks sent 52 athletes to the pre-district meet.

They competed in 131 events and eight relay races and enjoyed tremendous success, claiming the team points title.

The Mohawks were bolstered by a number of incredible individual finishes, including 32 firsts, 29 seconds, and 19 thirds.

The Mohawks also enjoyed success in the individual points races, with 14 athletes claiming top-six finishes.

The Mohawks’ best individual points event came in the midget girls category, where the Mohawks claimed five of the top six spots.

The blue and gold added to their haul in the midget boys’ event, finishing first, second and fourth.

The junior boys event saw the Mohawks claim the individual points title, while the Mohawks junior girls finished second and fifth.

In senior action, the Mohawks finished the competition with a second and fifth in girls, and a fourth in boys competition.

HPS

The Humboldt Public Panthers’ 14 athletes competed in 42 events and one relay race at the pre-district meet.

The Panthers’ small contingent struggled to compete with larger squads, finishing 12th.

The Panthers still enjoyed a solid amount of success, posting four second-place finishes and three thirds in individual events.

One Panther finished third in the bantam girls competition, their only  top-three finish in the individual points standings.

St. Dominic

The St. Dominic Chargers sent 34 athletes to the championships, where they competed in 90 individual events and four relay races, enjoying middling results, as they finished 10th overall.

The Chargers enjoyed solid results, posting eight firsts, eight seconds and eight thirds in individual and relay events.

A pair of Chargers athletes also enjoyed success in the individual points competition, claiming second in bantam girls, and sixth in bantam boys.

St. Augustine

The St. Augustine Hawks sent 29 athletes to the championships, where they competed in 78 individual events and three relay races, and enjoyed decent success finishing eighth overall. 

Despite the small contingent, the athletes enjoyed terrific results posting 14 firsts, six seconds, and nine thirds in individual and relay events.

A large part of the Hawks’s success came thanks to the bantam boys, who claimed a trio of individual top-five finishes.

With pre-districts in the rearview mirror, athletes will be turning their attention to districts, which come in Saskatoon on May 22.
