Helping the North Stars

Putting the players on the ice and helping with sponsorship and donations is part of what the North West Hockey Development Association's mandate and that was on display during the North Stars home opening.

The North Stars began the SJHL season Sept. 16 and Jules Cote of NWHDA was on hand to present the team with a cheque for $23,840.

This gesture represents their total donations and sponsorships to the Battlefords North Stars during the 2010-11 hockey year, also they provided $2,500 in scholarship money to graduating players at the end of the season.

The North West Hockey Development Association operates the Civic Centre canteen through the season and is operated entirely by volunteers. NWDHA also provided many local minor hockey and other organizations with an opportunity to work at the concession during games and in turn, they contributed $13,697 to those organizations from the past year.

In total, NWHDA returned more than $37,500 in profits from the concession back to the community last year to help local organizations.
