Notes from the week in high school sports:
Five golfers from Humboldt Collegiate Institute (HCI) competed in the Horizon School District championships here in Humboldt on Sept. 17.
The boys did well, winning the team competition behind the efforts of Tayden Wallin, Jett Tuchsherer, Matthew Sokolan and Spencer Hill. The top three individual scores were recorded by Wallin (80), Tuchsherer (81) and Sokolan (85). Spencer Hill finished fifth and Hailey Richards finished fifth in the girls division.
Wallin, Tuchsherer, Sokolan and Hill all qualified for the upcoming provincial golf championships, to be held Sept. 27-28 in Goodsoil. Coach Cam Koski will be preparing the team for the championships, the first time they've qualified in several years.
The HCI boys' soccer team has started their season with two wins. They defeated Lake Lenore 4-0 at home on Sept. 20 and Warman 5-3, also at home on Sept. 23. They will play in Warman on Sept. 26 and will host Muenster on Sept. 30.
