Monday marked the start of the 2012 Battlefords Minor Football season, as dozens of Grade 7 and 8 students had their first football practice.
Battlefords Minor Football kicked off its second season with practice, as the players were taught the basics of catching and throwing a football, running and protecting the football, blocking, tackling and even the proper way to take a hit.
Along with the nearly 50 players on the field behind North Battleford Comprehensive High School, a large number of coaches and volunteers were on hand to help with the first practice and the remainder of the season, which runs until the end of June.
Battlefords Minor Football suited up all the players in equipment and will expose them to football through practices twice a week and controlled games with other minor football programs in six-on-six play.
