Perhaps the most exciting week in the SJHL's regular season is upon us, as the Jan. 10 trade deadline approaches.

Before looking too far ahead, it is time to look at the previous week and month, and the players who earned the league's praise.

Although the Battlefords North Stars weren't in action, many of the SJHL teams were during the final week of December, which helped them earn the league's player of the week honours.

The player of the week was Estevan's Cole Olson. Olson had a goal and three assists in two games. Jesse Ross of Weyburn, Adam Antkowiak of Humboldt and Stuart Holland of Nipawin were the honourable mentions.

The SJHL defenceman of the week was Josh Roach of Humboldt. Battlefords Woody Klassen earned an honourable mention, as the award covered a span from Dec. 19 to Jan. 1 and the North Stars played just once during that stretch. Tyson Newell of Melville and Kamerson Ballas of Humboldt also earned honourable mentions.

The SJHL goaltender of the week was Melville's Blake Voth once again. Voth won both his starts stopping 92 of 95 shots. Davis Jones of Nipawin, Mitch Kilgore of Weyburn and Warren Shymko of Yorkton were the honourable mentions.

Along with the player of the week honours, the SJHL also announced the winners of the Player of the Month awards for December.

Former Battlefords Midget Star, Jordon Hoffman, who was traded from Kindersley to Weyburn Nov. 29, was named the player of the month. The product of Major had five goals and 11 assists in eight games since being traded.

Dillan McCombie of Flin Flon, Robbie Ciolfi of Humboldt, Coltyn Sanderson and Ross of Weyburn and Dylan Smith of Estevan were the honourable mentions for the monthly honour.

The defenceman of the month was Roach, who had five goals and three assists in nine games with the Broncos. Klassen was again an honourable mention along with Carson Grolla of Notre Dame, Jeff Datoff of Nipawin and Kelly Leismeister of Yorkton.

The goaltender of the month honours went to La Ronge's Alex Rajotte who was 3-0-0-2 during the month. Devin Buffalo of Flin Flon, Taran Kozun of Nipawin, Matt Hrynkiw of Humboldt and Kilgore of Weyburn were honourable mentions.

Buffalo was named the rookie of the month, as he was 4-0-0-1 with the Bombers in December. Taylor Reich of Estevan, Kozun, Jack Kennelly of Weyburn and Brandon Millin of Notre Dame were the honourable mentions.

As for the CJHl rankings, the North Stars moved as high as fourth, but after a four-game losing streak heading into the holiday break they have slipped to sixth. Weyburn holds the 15th spot while Humboldt moved to 18th.
