The Humboldt Golf Club is set to host its second major tournament in as many years. The course is putting on a Mixed Team Championship on August 23 and 24.
"We're excited to have the event in Humboldt," said Darren Dupont, manager of tournaments and player services for Golf Saskatchewan. "It's going to be a competitive and a fun event."
The format's twists undoubtedly make it a unique championship.
"You play your shot off the tee and then your partner plays your ball all the way to the green," said Dupont. "It's a modified alternate shot format that's nicknamed the divorce open because sometimes the male or female will shoo the ball into the trees and then his or her spouse has to go in there to get it."
When the Humboldt Golf Club hosted the 103rd Men's Championship last July, it succeeded most people's expectations.
"We've had a lot of success in Humboldt," said Dupont. "It's an amazing and beautiful course with challenges. It was a no-brainer to come back to Humboldt after last year was such a success."
There are no qualifications to enter, but each team must consist of one male and one female at least 19-years-old. Entry fee for the tournament is $252 dollars and registration is available on the Golf Saskatchewan website.
