It took a few days once the Rochester Red Wings started their baseball season for North Battleford's Andrew Albers to make his debut, but once he got his chance he didn't disappoint.
Albers has pitched in two games this season and is second on the team in innings pitched with an earned run average of .93.
Albers made his debut at the AAA level April 8. He allowed three hits and one run in 4.2 innings and had one walk with five strikeouts. Not a bad outing.
He improved on that the next time out, April 14, allowing four hits in five-complete innings and earning five strikeouts while not surrendering a run.
Weeks before the season started Albers commented to the News-Optimist that he hoped to eventually make the move from AA to AAA this season, but didn't expect to be named to the opening day roster of the Red Wings. He has, and now, early in the season, he doesn't plan to look back, with a dream of playing in Major League Baseball becoming more and more of a achievable goal.
Rochester was 2-8 on the season heading into action Monday.
